Bio

Hello and welcome to my website!

By day I am the Assistant Editor of Acoustic Magazine, the premier magazine devoted to all things acoustic guitar related. In my spare time I write fiction, poetry and journalism for other publications.

Most of the stories and poetry I write are rooted in speculative fiction. I have always loved science fiction and fantasy since reading Z for Zachariah by Robert C. O’brien on a wet Sunday at the grand old age of 9. Since then my tastes have expanded (although having re-read the book recently it’s still a cracker). Particular favourite authors in the field are: Philip K. Dick, Thomas M. Disch, Arthur C. Clarke (I’m sensing a theme with this middle letter thing!), Isaac Asimov and many others. Of course I don’t only read sci-fi but I won’t bore you with another long list.

benpicI recently finished an English Literature degree, having gone back to education after a few years of working dead end jobs. I am also a qualified ESOL teacher.

In my spare time I love long walks at the beach or on Dartmoor with my partner Kate, listening to loud rawk music, shooting the breeze with my chums and drinking coffee in the many cafés where I live.

I play the bass guitar and guitar, and for a while had dreams of being a rockstar.  I was a founding member of Exeter based heavy metal band Drivechain. With classic rock band Aesculus Hipp I supported John Sykes’ and Scott Gorham’s Thin Lizzy, Budgie, Mountain, Graham Bonnet (ex-lead singer for Rainbow), Stan Webb and others.

I’m always on the lookout for new writing opportunities, so if you have something you think might be of interest please scoot on over to the contact page and drop me a line!

Praise for Ben Cooper
